What If?

What if size differences were accepted the way differences in height are accepted. No one said 'you could stand to lose/gain a few' anymore than anyone would say 'You could stand to be a couple of inches shorter/taller'?
What if those whose weight is very great were looked on with compassion and understanding rather than disgust or disdain?

Am I The Only One?

I had a slight case of 'diet envy' this past week. Luckily I got over it, but it was touch and go there for a while.

Last week I ran into someone I haven't seen in a while. She's been low-carbing and is looking a bit thinner than last time I saw her. I've been managing to lose very. slowly. without dieting, but she, of course, has lost quite a lot more. Naturally a little voice began nagging me - telling me how much weight I could have lost by now if I'd just wise up and do low carb, too.

I admit, for a time it sounded pretty good to me. Just do it. Lose 20 pounds or so then I could work on a reasonable relationship with food, etc, etc. All those arguments that sound so reasonable.

But reason and self-knowledge eventually won out. So I'm sticking to slow, steady and sustainable.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to make a batch of dough for homemade - and not the slightest bit low carb - pizza.

Winter Blah-ness

Groundhog day was a couple of weeks ago, and today even Valentine's Day is a memory. Pretty soon winter will be a memory as well. But for now, it's solidly (and icily) here. No matter what the rodent said about 'early spring', apparently, it didn't mean this early.

Nevertheless, like many people, I've got a three day weekend (yay!) and I am making plans on what to do with it. Some work, some play; some indoors - and some outdoors. It's always about balance with me.

What do you do to shake of those winter blahs?

A Different Kind of New Year's Challenge

I'm one of those people that likes to keep balance and harmony all year long. I don't make resolutions, instead I make little adjustments as I see the need. I don't binge for weeks and then jump on the equal and opposite rebound  'detox' or 'cleanse' bandwagon.

Having said that,  though, I'm thinking of joining this challenge:

....starting this coming Monday, January 4, 2013, we are going to embark on an anti-diet together.  There will be pie.  There will be sugars and starches.  There will be naps.  There will be weight-lifting, hiking, dancing, spazzercising, and playing because you have energy and want to move.

Sounds like fun. What do you think?
